Seoul

Edge & Appetite

Overview

A city designing its own future.

Seoul moves faster than almost anywhere. It is a city that has rebuilt itself within living memory and now leads the world in design, food, and culture with a confidence that feels earned rather than assumed. Arrive curious.

Three things worth knowing

01

The Palaces

Gyeongbokgung Palace occupies the centre of the city as if daring the surrounding towers to forget where they came from. It is the largest of Seoul's five Joseon palaces, and in spring, surrounded by forsythia, it is extraordinary.

02

Gangnam & Beyond

The design districts of Cheongdam and Garosu-gil contain some of the finest contemporary architecture in Asia — small galleries, independent fashion houses, restaurants that look as though they were built the day before you arrived.

03

The Food

Seoul eats with seriousness and generosity. A table of banchan before the main arrives. Galbi at a grill pressed to the floor. Cold naengmyeon in summer. The city's food is not trendy — it has always been this good.
